Short answer No
Moonshot EHR does not submit insurance claims, run eligibility checks or connect to a clearinghouse. It is built for cash-pay and membership practices where the patient pays the clinic. Patients receive itemized receipts they can submit to an HSA, FSA or out-of-network benefit themselves.
How it works in Moonshot
- Billing is cards, cash, memberships, packages, installments and pay links, with itemized receipts on every charge.
- Balances carried over from an insurance-era system can be loaded as pending charges so the desk can collect them.
- Reports and the accounting journal are cash basis, which matches how a cash-pay clinic actually books revenue.
Limits, stated plainly
- No CMS-1500 or 837 claims, no ERA posting, no payer contracts, no eligibility.
- No superbill generator in the insurance sense; the itemized receipt carries the service, price, date and provider.
- If a meaningful share of your revenue must come from payers, Moonshot is the wrong tool and we will say so on the call.

Questions people ask next
Can patients get reimbursed out of network?
Many do, using the itemized receipt. Whether a payer reimburses is between the patient and the payer.
Will Moonshot add insurance billing later?
It is not on the roadmap. The product is deliberately cash-pay.
Can we bill a few Medicare patients?
Not through Moonshot. Clinics that must do this use a separate billing service for those visits.
