Labs
Order labs and read results in the chart.Any lab by PDF today. Quest by interface next.
Load any lab's PDF report as structured values with flags, today. The Quest interface (an order wizard in the chart, patient self-booked draws and results filed to the order) is built. Certification testing with Quest is complete. Moonshot switches Quest ordering on per clinic as each clinic's Quest account is set up. Critical values from the Quest interface land on a worklist a provider acknowledges.

The platform at a glance
The order, the draw and the result in one record.
Labs are where a cash-pay clinic loses the most staff time: a portal for ordering, a spreadsheet for tracking, a fax inbox for results and a person retyping values. Moonshot keeps the order, the draw and the result on the patient's chart.
Quest is the electronic interface. Certification testing with Quest is complete. Moonshot switches Quest ordering on per clinic as each clinic's Quest account is set up. Every other lab comes in by PDF: upload the report to the order, click Extract, and each test name, value, unit, reference range and flag loads onto the order.
The connected workflow
From the order to a reviewed result.
See how a lab order moves through Moonshot.
Order
Open the lab wizard from the chart: choose tests from Quest's directory or your saved panels, add clinical details, pick who pays and where the draw happens, then review and sign. Staff can save a draft and resume it, and enter an order on a provider's behalf.
Draw
Once Quest is switched on for your clinic, send the order as a Patient Service Center hold. Where the clinic turns it on, patients book, reschedule or cancel their own draw at a Quest site from the portal.
Result
Quest results file to the order once Quest is switched on for your clinic. For any other lab, upload the PDF and click Extract to load the values.
Review
Each order shows total and abnormal counts. Critical values that arrive through the Quest interface go to a clinician worklist, acknowledged with a read-back. Imported results wait for provider review. Results reach the portal after a provider releases them.
What changes for your team
Less retyping. Fewer results that sit unseen.
| The friction | In Moonshot | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ordering in a separate lab portal | Quest order wizard in the chart | Tests, diagnosis, billing and collection site are captured once, with a printable requisition back in the chart. |
| Patients calling to find a draw site | Patient self-scheduling at Quest sites | Patients pick a site and time from the portal, so the desk is not booking draws by phone. |
| Results keyed in by hand | PDF results import with extraction | Values, units, ranges and flags load from the report; staff correct a value only when the format needs it. |
| A critical value nobody saw | Critical-value worklist for Quest results | A provider acknowledges each pending critical value with a read-back, and the acknowledgment is kept as a record. |
Limits, stated plainly
What labs in Moonshot do not do.
- Electronic ordering is Quest only. Certification testing with Quest is complete. Moonshot switches Quest ordering on per clinic as each clinic's Quest account is set up. There is no self-serve switch.
- The critical-value worklist is fed by Quest interface results. PDF-imported results are flagged and wait for provider review, but do not go to the worklist.
- Labcorp has no electronic ordering or results interface. Order in the Labcorp portal and bring results in by PDF import.
- PDF import labels results from Labcorp, Cleveland HeartLab, Vibrant America, Vitae, Boston Heart, Genova, Access Medical Labs, Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Doctor's Data and SpectraCell. Extraction is tuned for Quest report formats, so other labs' reports may need a correction pass.
- Faxed results arrive in the Fax inbox and a person files them to the chart; they do not attach themselves to a patient.
- There is no in-house CLIA lab module and no bench analyzer interface.
Questions buyers ask
Lab ordering and results, explained.
Can we order from Labcorp in Moonshot?
Not electronically. Labcorp orders go through the Labcorp portal, and results come in by uploading the PDF to the order and clicking Extract.
Which labs can we import results from?
Any lab that sends a PDF report. Moonshot labels results from Quest, Labcorp, Cleveland HeartLab, Vibrant America, Vitae, Boston Heart, Genova, Access Medical Labs, Precision Analytical (DUTCH), Doctor's Data and SpectraCell, and keeps any other lab name as typed.
Can patients schedule their own blood draw?
Yes, at Quest Patient Service Centers, when the clinic turns on patient scheduling. Patients book, reschedule or cancel the draw from the portal.
What happens when a result is critical?
Critical values that arrive through the Quest interface go to a clinician worklist. A provider acknowledges each one with a read-back, and the acknowledgment is kept as a compliance record.
Do results go to the patient automatically?
No. A provider reviews and releases results to the patient portal.
Is Quest ordering on from day one?
Not on day one. Certification testing with Quest is complete. Moonshot switches Quest ordering on per clinic as each clinic's Quest account is set up. Until a clinic is switched on, and for every other lab, results come in by PDF import.
