Short answer Partly
Moonshot EHR provisions a dedicated texting number for each clinic and runs all patient texting on it. The number Moonshot provisions is toll-free, which carriers register for business texting; a local 10DLC number is not something a clinic can set up itself in Settings today. Carrier registration takes from a few days to about two weeks before the number can text.
How it works in Moonshot
- Moonshot provisions the number, submits the carrier registration, and shows the status in Settings: not set up, number in carrier review, texting live.
- The number appears above the inbox so staff can give it to patients, and replies from patients land on their thread.
- Opt-outs are honored at the carrier level and synced to the chart.
Limits, stated plainly
- No self-serve number purchase and no self-serve local 10DLC. If a local number matters for your market, ask; it is handled case by case.
- No MMS. No number porting of an existing clinic SMS line is offered as self-service.

Questions people ask next
Will patients see a toll-free number when we text them?
Yes. Replies to it come back to the inbox.
Is there a charge for the number or per text?
No separate line item today; texting is part of the subscription.
What is 10DLC?
A carrier program that registers a local ten-digit number for business texting, with a brand and campaign review. Moonshot's standard rail uses verified toll-free numbers instead.
