Short answer Yes
Moonshot EHR texts patients from a clinic number and shows their replies in the same Communications inbox as portal messages, one row per patient. Texting is built into the product, not an integration you buy separately. Moonshot provisions the number for the clinic; carrier registration can take from a few days to two weeks.
How it works in Moonshot
- Staff text from the inbox, from the chart, or through automations (reminders, membership renewal notices, payment links). Replies land on the patient's thread and raise the unread count.
- The reply box toggles between Text and Portal message and defaults to whichever channel the patient used last.
- STOP is honored at the carrier level and synced to the patient record, so an opted-out patient stops receiving automations without staff doing anything.
- The website chat and the phone assistant write their confirmations and messages onto the same thread, so the front desk sees every channel in one place.
Limits, stated plainly
- Delivery status shows Texted or Failed; there are no per-message delivery receipts, so Moonshot never claims a text was read.
- No MMS. Photos and documents go through the portal.
- The clinic number is a toll-free number provisioned by Moonshot. Clinics cannot self-serve a local 10DLC number today; if you need one, ask and it is handled by Moonshot.

Questions people ask next
Can patients text us first?
Yes. Inbound texts to the clinic number are matched to the patient by phone number and appear on that patient's thread in the inbox.
Is texting an extra charge?
No. Texting is part of the platform subscription. There is no per-seat texting add-on.
Does Moonshot work with Spruce?
Spruce can be the texting carrier if a clinic already uses it, but it is optional. The native rail and the inbox work without it.
